There is no magic formula that students can get plugged into to pass the NCLEX examination . Consequently, some students may be able pass without reviewing any reference materials, and other will buy 5-7 reference guides and attend Online NCLEX exam courses that are extremely expensive. Obviously, it is foolish to take the NCLEX without any review of potential questions and NCLEX content. The application fee and a failing score simply add up to frustration.
The NCLEX Exam takers should be aware of the fact that sometimes too much information on the NCLEX can lead to “overkill”. The right study guide offers brevity, precision, and no fluff. NCLEX test takers should be aware of the many pitfalls of NCLEX preparation . The NCLEX will be the most important test nursing students take in the process of becoming a nurse.

NCLEX Examination Format

The NCLEX Exam is offered by Pearson VUE. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing has partnered with Pearson VUE to deliver the NCLEX exam. Pearson VUE offers both the NCLEX RN Exam and NCLEX PN Exam.
The Online NCLEX testing format stands for a computer adaptive testing (CAT) format. The computer during the NCLEX test will give you harder questions if you answer a question correctly or easier questions if you answer a question incorrectly. The first question on the NCLEX will be below the baseline required passing score. Consequently, a graph could be constructed using questions as points on the graph. The points above and below the passing baseline contribute to your overall testing score. The NCLEX test attempts to match you with questions that are at your level of nursing knowledge and understanding.
The NCLEX does not time each question presented in the CAT format. You are allowed to answer each question without time constraints. However, the NCLEX does have a test taking time of 5 hours.

Study NCLEX Review Introduction

The NCLEX Exam is required to receive professional licensure in the field of nursing and are created by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). The NCLEX means National Council Licensure Examination. The key Study NCLEX tips are stated as follows:
1. Assess, Assess, Assess: In almost all cases something can be done before contacting the MD.
2. Prioritize: Delegate to the appropriate support personal and prioritize your tasks.
3. Review Medical Terminology: Understand the definition of all medical abbreviations and terminology used in the NCLEX PN Exam .
The hours of studying and the class work are finally worth it when you are free to practice nursing after passing the NCLEX, and you have highly sought after job skills.

What is NCLEX?

NCLEX (National Council Licensure EXamination) is an examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States. There are two types, the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN.
NCLEX examination is developed and owned by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN). NCSBN administers these examinations on behalf of its member boards which consist of the boards of nursing in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands.
To ensure public protection, each board of nursing requires a candidate for licensure to pass the appropriate NCLEX examination, NCLEX-RN exam for registered nurses and the NCLEX-PN exam for vocational/practical nurses. NCLEX examinations are designed to test the knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry-level. PLEASE NOTE: The NCLEX is not about memorization but rather one must understand the concept behind critical thinking. As of 2010, the NCLEX exam is focusing a lot on how to delegate and prioritize as well as infection control.
NCLEX examinations are provided in a computerized adaptive testing (CAT) format and are presently administered by Pearson VUE in their network of Pearson Professional Centers (PPC).

NCLEX Examination Information

You should answer NCLEX examination using “book” knowledge and not practical experience. On the NCLEX RN operate on massive budgets and no expense is spared to provide proper care. NCLEX RN Exam are covering all their bases and focus on patient care that is sometimes unrealistic in today’s healthcare world. Generally, the correct answer is the answer that identifies the safest approach. It may not be the fastest or the best, but it is the safest. The old medical slogan of “Do No Harm” applies to NCLEX exam takers. NCLEX-RN writers are trying to make sure that you are competent and recognize that safety is the key.

Another key point on reviewing for the NCLEX RN exam, is know your normal laboratory data ranges. Lab test results on the NCLEX examinations will not be flagged with an asterisk if the number is outside of normal ranges. NCLEX exam takers must memorize the basic lab values. Focus on the blood gas values. These values in particular can be complicated. If you do not remember the normal ranges you will have no chance of answering lab value questions on the NCLEX examination. Many times these abnormal values will require further assessment.

It is also important to note that notifying the physician or contacting other health care workers is not the correct answer in many cases on the NCLEX. Remember the NSCBN guidelines: Assess, Assess, Assess. Choose answers that require further assessment before contacting someone else on the NCLEX questions. Basically, collect more data and factual information before calling in other healthcare professionals.

NCLEX Examination Breakdown

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) in conjunction with Pearson VUE administers two NCLEX tests that are used to aid in the determination of the licensure of nurses. These examinations are the National Council Licensure Examination for a Practical Nurse (NCLEX PN) and the National Council Licensure Examination for a Registered Nurse or NCLEX-RN. These two tests are used with state and territorial boards of nursing to aid in the determination of the licensure of nurses.
One of the primary differences between the NCLEX RN exam and NCLEX PN is the different number of questions.
Both of these NCLEX Examinations require the same basic understanding of nursing practice and knowledge. The NCLEX-RN exam questions and the NCLEX PN questions are presented with four multiple choice answer scenarios. In some cases, the NCLEX RN is using a more difficult question format that requires multiple right answers to be selected. To ensure public protection, each jurisdiction requires candidates for licensure to pass an examination that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level registered nurse (NCLEX RN). NCSBN develops a licensure examination, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), which is used by member board jurisdictions to assist in making licensure decisions.
Several steps occur in the development of the NCLEX RN Exam Plan. The first step is conducting a practice analy¬sis that is used to collect data on the current practice of the entry-level nurse (Report of Findings from the 2008 RN Practice Analysis: Linking the NCLEX-RN Examination to Practice, NCSBN, 2009). A total of 12,000 newly licensed RNs are asked about the frequency and importance of performing 155 nursing care activities. Nursing care activities are then analyzed in relation to the frequency of performance, impact on maintaining client safety and client care settings where the activities are performed. This analysis guides the development of a framework for entry-level nursing practice that incorporates specific client needs, as well as processes fundamental to the practice of nursing. The second step is the development of the NCLEX-RN Exam plan, which guides the selection of content and behaviors to be tested.
The NCLEX RN Exam plan provides a concise summary of the content and scope of the licensing examination. It serves as a guide for examination development as well as candidate preparation. Each NCLEX exam is based on the exam plan. The NCLEX RN examination assesses the knowledge, skills and abilities that are essential for the nurse to use in order to meet the needs of clients requiring the promotion, maintenance or restoration of health. The following sections describe beliefs about people and nursing that are integral to the examination, cognitive abilities that will be tested in the online practice tests and specific components of the NCLEX-RN Exam plan.

The NCLEX Examinations

To ensure public protection, NCSBN Member Board jurisdictions require a candidate for licensure to pass an examination that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level nurse. NCSBN develops two licensure examinations, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses - NCLEX-RN and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses - NCLEX-PN, that are used by boards of nursing to assist in making licensure decisions.

Taking the NCLEX Examination is a capstone experience to your studies and so much more. This is an interactive process in which while questions are answered, the computer chooses the subsequent questions that will gauge and assess the candidate most accurately. The exam contains a minimum of 75 questions, and a maximum of 265. It can last for a maximum of six hours. The items are usually multiple-choice questions with four options. There may also be fill-in-the-blank, picture or graphic-based questions, or even multiple-choice questions that ask the candidate to select more than one correct answer. Several of the questions will require the candidate to read and interpret charts, tables, and pictures. Exam scores will be available two business days after the exam date in some jurisdictions unofficially while official results will be announced by the licensing agency in the candidate’s jurisdiction. The NCLEX RN exam is administered at Pearson professional centers around the United States.

The NCLEX-RN Exam

In order to qualify as a registered nurse, a candidate must pass the national exam for registered nurses, i.e. the NCLEX-RN. NCLEX is the abbreviation for National Council Licensure Examination. Once a degree in nursing is attained and the NCLEX-RN exam cleared, the candidate can practice as a registered nurse. Most nursing courses of study are generally somewhat selective, and the candidate needs to demonstrate some aptitude for nursing skills and their related academic courses for being accepted. After getting the diploma or degree, some time is usually spent in preparing for the licensing test. The NCLEX is indeed quite a challenge no matter which version is taken. It requires a good grasp of nursing concepts and a lot of study time in order to pass. A good study guide is essential to preparing for either version of the NCLEX.
